Activists Protest Against the Climate Crisis

Around 9:00 a.m., two activists from Futuro Vegetal unleashed an act of vandalism in the port of Ibiza. Using fire extinguishers, they sprayed paint on the mega-yacht owned by one of the world’s wealthiest women, as a powerful protest against the Climate Crisis. This action serves as the culmination of the campaign “Jets and Yachts, the Party Is Over” organized by Extinction Rebellion Ibiza, calling for the banning of private jets and an end to luxury emissions.

The ‘Kaos’ Megayacht and its Staggering Stats

Sailing under the Jamaican flag, the ‘Kaos’ megayacht stretches 110 meters in length and weighs a remarkable 4,523 tons. Built in 2017, its value is estimated at 300 million euros, with annual maintenance costs ranging from $20 to $30 million, according to superyachtfan.com. The owner, Nancy Walton, is one of the heirs of Walmart and possesses a current fortune of $8.7 billion, as reported by Forbes.

Activists Speak Out Against Economic Inequality

Futuro Vegetal took to their social networks to share a statement condemning the economic system that perpetuates privileges for a small, privileged class. Their banner, which reads “You consume others’ suffering,” highlights the group’s belief that those at the top of the social pyramid exploit animals, destroy the environment, and prioritize their own interests over the well-being of the planet.

The Urgency of Climate Action

Amidst a week of extreme weather events, with temperatures reaching 60ºC in Extremadura and record-breaking heatwaves, Futuro Vegetal emphasizes that the Climate Crisis will result in endless suffering for all inhabitants of the planet. They remain steadfast in their determination to mitigate the impact of the crisis, stressing the need for collective action and systemic change.

A Call for Unity and Change

Futuro Vegetal warns that repression and electoral processes alone cannot halt their resolve. They assert that only the collective union of people against the powerful’s necropolitics can generate the change necessary to address the agri-food system and alleviate the worst consequences of Climate Chaos.

The Journey Continues

As life unfolds, Futuro Vegetal remains committed to raising awareness and taking action to combat the Climate Crisis, despite the challenges they may face.
