Decrease in Private Flights Signals Changes in Ibiza’s Aviation Landscape

In the first half of 2023, Ibiza has witnessed a decline in the number of private planes gracing its skies. Compared to the previous year, there has been a notable reduction in private aviation movements.

Analyzing the Statistics: January to June Comparison

From January to June, a total of 5,395 private aviation movements were recorded, a decrease from the 6,066 movements during the same period last year. This signifies a shift in the air traffic dynamics of Ibiza.

June Shows a Decrease in Activity

June, typically a month of increased aviation activity, experienced a decline in private plane operations. In June 2023, there were 2,339 registered operations, whereas June 2022 recorded slightly higher numbers at 2,558 flights.

Downward Trend Continues in May and April

The downward trend in private flights extended to May and April as well. In May 2023, there were 1,239 operations, whereas in the same month of the previous year, the number stood at 1,600, narrowly missing the mark by 10. Similarly, in April 2023, there were 845 private aviation operations, slightly below the 851 recorded in April of the preceding year.

First Quarter Comparison: January to March

Examining the first quarter, the figures remained consistent with the overall trend. From January to March 2023, a total of 975 private flights were counted, noticeably lower than the 1,067 recorded during the corresponding period in the previous year.

Looking Ahead: July to September Figures

The final assessment of the aviation landscape in Ibiza will heavily rely on the data collected from July to September. Last year, July emerged as the busiest month with 3,467 private flights, closely followed by August with 2,889 flights. It remains to be seen if a similar surge will occur in the second half of the year or if the current downward trend will persist.

Ibiza Airport’s Standing in AENA Network

In 2022, Ibiza airport held the distinction of being the second busiest airport in the AENA network in terms of private aviation movements. Whether a rebound in activity will be observed in the second semester or if the current trend will endure, time will tell.
