A 33-year-old man has received a three-year prison sentence after attempting to fly from Santiago de Compostela to Ibiza with 564 grams of cocaine concealed in his underpants. The case, reported by La Voz de Galicia, saw the individual accepting a guilty plea deal, acknowledging his involvement in drug trafficking, and agreeing to pay a fine of 31,600 euros.

Guilty Plea Results in Reduced Sentence and Fine

Originally facing a six-year sentence and a 64,000 euro fine as a repeat offender, the accused benefited from a mitigating circumstance of drug addiction after pleading guilty. This led to a reduced sentence for his attempted cocaine smuggling operation.

Cocaine Seizure at Rosalía de Castro Airport

On August 2 of the previous year, security agents at Rosalía de Castro airport in Galicia observed the man’s suspicious behavior during the passenger baggage inspection. Following this, they conducted a thorough search of his belongings in a separate room. During the search, agents discovered a package attached to the man’s underwear, containing more than half a kilo of cocaine intended for transportation to Ibiza.

The trial took place in the Compostela section of the Provincial Court of A Coruña.
