The Fire Department swiftly responded to the distress call on Saturday afternoon. However, upon reaching the site, they faced the daunting challenge of locating the missing doctor. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the Fire Department enlisted the assistance of Maritime Salvage and the Civil Guard in the search and rescue efforts.
Battling Nature’s Fury
The operation to find A.F.C. faced a formidable adversary in the form of tumultuous seas, which were stirred by strong winds on that ill-fated Saturday. These adverse weather conditions posed a significant hindrance to the Maritime Salvage helicopter and the GEAS team of the Civil Guard.
With determination undeterred, the Fire Department, in collaboration with the Civil Guard and Maritime Salvage, resumed their rescue mission on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, the treacherous sea conditions persisted, making it impossible to approach by water. Undaunted, they transported all necessary rescue and diving equipment overland to execute the operation from within the cave.
Notably, the specialized mountain intervention rescue group (GREIM) of the Civil Guard also joined the operation, adding their expertise and resources to the search.
Ensuring Safety and Control
As the search and rescue operation intensified, the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Sant Antoni assumed control over access to the coastal area surrounding Ullal de na Coloms. In the interest of safety and to avoid further accidents, authorities urged citizens to refrain from visiting this cliff area during the ongoing rescue efforts.
